9 people injured in shooting outside Columbia dance studio rented as event space

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – Nine people were injured in a shooting outside a Columbia business that served as an event space.

It happened around 1 a.m. Sunday in the 6900 block of Two Notch Road at a mall across from Columbia Place Mall.

According to witnesses, someone entered the gate of the party and opened fire, hitting at least three people inside. Others were also hit by gunfire outside.

When deputies arrived, they found several people who had been shot. The crews transported these people to the hospital.

MPs say they have also received reports from hospitals in the area that other victims have arrived on their own.

Authorities determined that a total of nine people sustained gunshot wounds.

“Hearing nine people get shot behind me – and you actually see shoes, people ran out of them,” Sheila Ashely said. “It really scares me to stand in a place where people were running for their lives.”

Filming took place in front of The Vault, a children’s dance studio.

When WIS contacted the owner, Curtis Taylor said the shoot had nothing to do with his studio. He said he rented the space to someone for a birthday party to earn some extra money.

Taylor was very upset.

He said he works hard to keep a safe space for children to do good in the world and get away from the negative.

He plans to leave this place because Two Notch has changed so much.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to submit a tip to Crime Stoppers.
