Tampa Nonprofit Dance Studio Makes Dance Accessible to Everyone: ‘We Just Want to Give Kids the Same Opportunity…’ | L.Cane

A local non-profit organization doesn’t want to see a child denied the chance to learn dance.

What is dancing for a difference? :

Dance for a difference is a non-profit organization whose mission is to serve the community and make dance accessible to all children of all abilities.

Four years agoPrincipal and teacher Sara Battaglia started the studio with the idea of including all children, regardless of circumstance.

Sarah told the WFLA:

“We just want to give children the same opportunities as all children. Children with special needs, foster children. All children, low income or whatever.”

What type of dance does Dance for a Difference teach? :

The workshop offers Several types of dance styles taught throughout the week, such as jazz, ballet, lyrical, acro, hip hop and tap. There are also tumbling and musical theater options.

A new studio for a growing company:

Over time, the company grew to around 200 students, and the company’s old studio did not have the space to grow further.

But in January, Dancing for a Difference was able move into a new studio which is twice the size of their old one. As a result, they can accommodate more children. The new workshop is located at 1076 E. Brandon Boulevard, Suites #108 and #109 33511.

Congratulations from the parents:

Several parents have written about how Dancing for a Difference has helped children and the community.

A parent wrote:

“Great experience for my daughter who has Chiari. She is in a wheelchair with a feeding tube, trachea and vent. They make her feel as welcome as any other child, and I completely believe that ‘she can’t even tell she’s different when she’s at the dance.”

Another wrote:

“They make it extremely affordable for everyone and provide scholarships to those in need. No one is turned away. They also have partnerships with other nonprofits, who have donated a lot of shoes dance and other dance items on the program… They also do several awareness events such as teaching for the Girl Scouts and the Ronald McDonald House, as well as performances in nursing homes and awareness walks .”

It’s always wonderful to see companies giving back to their communities.
